Do you see what I see?

Are you utilizing your data?

By now, almost all of us are using salon software. Even if you’re still using a manual book, you’re constantly collecting data it’s just more time-consuming to calculate.

Regardless of the above, what are you doing with your data? Personally, my software offers over 150 reports and I only use a handful. I imagine we’re all pulling totals to calculate payroll, looking over previous sales before reordering retail & professional supplies, but what else do you do with your data?

How many new guests do you see per week? Do you know? What if you created a contest to encourage your team to bring in new customers? Maybe if the monthly quota is surpassed they win a pizza party! Who opens your marketing pieces? Do you know? Here is an idea, what if you split your marketing list up into two segments a. regular openers and b. no engagement? Maybe you can entice the no-engagement group with a spicy deal!

Do you track referrals? What do you give your loyal clients that spread the love? My software offers a point system, which automatically rewards referrals.

I know firsthand that time is limited. I’m loving the new guest quota idea, which by the way, is simply an idea. I don’t currently track new guests on a monthly basis, it’s more like once in a blue moon when I think of it.

The truth is our data options are endless, so we have to decide what is the most important to us. Maybe we create a seasonal calendar that reflects our needs. For example, my salon’s calendar should be in the summer we focus on bringing in new customers, while our winter focus is selling memberships. Once we know what we want to build on, we can determine what data we should be tracking and often we should be reviewing it.

I challenge all of US to use a new report this month! Use the data to track something in your salon, and make the time and effort to grow your business with this new information. I’d love you to send me an update on what you’ve learned.
